Exercise... The difference that makes the difference

Adopting or maintaining an exercise program is absolutely critical after losing weight. Exercise should include both cardiovascular exercise as well as a resistance training. Cardiovascular exercises include those that enable the heart rate to rise of a sustained period such as walking, running, cycling and swimming. Cardiovascular exercise simply enables you to burn more energy and the higher your cardiovascular fitness is, the greater your ability is to burn fat during exercise as well as at rest. Resistance training is also extremely important as it helps to raise your resting metabolic rate (the rate at which you burn energy). Resistance Training also helps to increased Muscular Strength and Endurance, increase Lean Muscle Mass, improve your posture and bone Mineral Density, as well as giving you a positive effect on your self-image.

It is recommended that you perform cardiovascular exercise on at least 3 – 4 days per week and resistance training on 1-2 days per week. Some so called experts suggest to do at least 30 minutes each day which ideally would be great. However, even if you only have 10 minutes per day to exercise – do it. Something is better than nothing. Most important, you should perform exercises that you enjoy so that is can be sustained long-term. After all exercise made fun gets done. So if you enjoy swimming, swim, if you enjoy walking, walk!
