How to Empower Yourself in 5 Minutes

Every now and again we may find ourselves ‘down in the dumps’ as we work hard to achieve our goals. It’s important to understand that this is a common feeling among many people with all different goals, however there are things you can do to change your mentality within just a few minutes.

The word “can’t” is powerful and we don’t usually notice how often we say it everyday. When we say the word “can’t”, we are placing a barrier on ourselves that stops us progressing or attempting to create change.

Contrary to what many believe, the word “can’t” actually means one of three things according to Robert Chen at Embrace Possibility;

  1. I don’t want to
  2. I don’t know how to
  3. I don’t believe I can

If you think of a time when you said you “can’t” do something, ask yourself whether the underlying reason for saying that was one of the three meanings listed above.

Example;

“I can’t lose weight”

Could mean;

“I don’t know how to lose weight”

Being aware of your use of the word “can’t” is a great start in changing the way you think. Whenever you are considering using “can’t” as an excuse, try using one of the above meanings to understand what’s really stopping you from achieving your goals. This makes it easier to find solutions.

Example;

“I can’t lose weight”

Could mean;

“I don’t know how to lose weight”
Solution;

“I am going to learn how to lose weight”

By removing the word “can’t” from your life, you’ll be able to make better progress in achieving your goals.
