It’s Time to Practise Mindfulness

We live in a world where we have to hustle if we don’t bustle. Constantly being on-the-go can help us to be productive, but it can also burn us out with little notice. This means that now more than ever we have to prioritise our health so that we can stay at the top of our game. Aside from eating well and exercising daily, we should also be practising mindfulness activities to look after our mental health. Here are a few of our favourite exercises that you can try today;

 

Breathe

This one can be done wherever you feel comfortable. Start by placing your hands on your diaphragm, located just below the rib cage. Begin by taking one deep breath for 4 seconds, then pause, and exhale for 4 seconds by pretending to blow into a straw. Try to focus on the movement of your stomach as it has a de-stressing effect. Repeat this exercise for at least 30 seconds, but keep going until you feel more relaxed.

 

Observe

Take at least 15 minutes of your day to yourself and head out into nature. Whether you choose to sit still, walk, or simply stand, be sure to focus on what’s happening around you. Focusing on the leaves, birds, or sound of the wind can be an effective way to de-stress.

 

Eat

Eating can be one way to relax. Grab your healthy meal, switch off the TV, put your phone away and embrace the mini-break. Often we forget to enjoy our food when we’re focused on other things going on in front of us. This often leads to overeating and boredom. Find somewhere to sit and enjoy your food.

 

It’s time to put yourself first. Learn how to enjoy the little things in life and you’ll notice a gradual change in your happiness everyday.
